How much does car insurance cost?

Your cost for car insurance is dependent on many factors including, but not limited to:

Your credit

For how many years you have been licensed to drive

If you have taken a defensive driving course within the past three years

How many accidents and violations you have had (driving any car, not just the one you want to insure)

If you purchase “liability only” coverage or if you also want to insure the vehicle for collision coverage and/or comprehensive coverage (e.g. theft).  If you lease or finance the car, you will likely need to buy comprehensive and collision coverage.  Some banks and leasing companies may even require that these deductibles not be greater than $500.  The lower the deductible, the higher your premium will be.

Does my nanny have to be listed on my car insurance policy?

Most likely yes, particularly if the nanny lives in your household an/or your car is available for her use.

My high school age children do not have permission to drive my car, can I leave them off my policy?

No, if they are old enough to be licensed, even if they do not have a driver licence, they have to be listed on your car insurance policy.

Can I buy car insurance if I only have a learner’s permit?

No, not from this insurance agency.

Can I buy car insurance if I drive for Uber or Lyft?

No, not from this insurance agency.

Can I buy NY car insurance if I have an international driver license?

Yes, the policy could be purchased and issued so that you can register the car but at some point you will need to obtain a NY driver license.

My car already had the state emissions inspection.  Why do I need to get it inspected again after buying car insurance?

Those are two different inspections.  The insurance company will want the car inspected for mileage, features and any existing exterior damage if the car is less than 7 years old and has comprehensive and/or collision coverage.  However, this particular inspection is not required if at the time of adding the insurance you purchased the car brand new.   To get this inspection done you can bring it to a local mechanic if they are authorized to do “Carco” inspections.  You as the car insurance customer do not pay for the inspection.
